The Ultimate 2021 starter pack

I think many of us will be glad to see the back of 2020. And even though things around us are still not certain, it is important to go into the new year with a bright outlook.

If we go going off history, practically all periods of doom have created room for a fantastic reverse – for example, the 1918-19 pandemic leading to the roaring 20’s.

It is in our nature to take ‘cancel culture’ and flip it on it’s head and come out on top again. 2021 is our chance to rebound once again, and to get us there I have created an ultimate starter pack of what I think are the best things we need to get into it. Read on for inspiration.

(1) Take a stance

“Hi Covid, it’s me calling. Just to say thanks for lessons last year. I know you are strong, but I am stronger.” In the UK we’ve been thrown a couple of punches over the last few years so we are more than capable of getting through round two.

(2) Be resourceful: the industrious you

I think ever person, their partner and their dog learned a new skill during lockdown 1.0 and this time should be no different. Remember the attitude of resourcefulness that we learned the first time, and reapply it this time too; keep cooking, doing your own nails, up-cycling clothes and getting crafty.

(3) Lighten up & live in the moment!

Considering more than half of the year has been taken away from us this year we have learned that we need to lighten up and live in the moment. More than ever the YOLO stance couldn’t be more applicable and tomorrow is never guaranteed, so do what makes you happy and have a laugh.

(4) Let go of expectations

If this year taught us anything it’s that anything unexpected can happen at any time. So let go of all your expectations of what this coming year could be, and focus on what it is.

We should adjust our goals within potential limitations. “Focus on the controllable. The things that we can influence. Set goals around learning a new skill or around personal development.

(5) Go for gold

In saying that, if there is something you want go get it. There are plenty of yesterdays and not enough tomorrows, so go for gold and get where you want to be in life. You deserve everything you want to have and you aren’t going to get it being negative post-corona.

(6) Be hopeful

Listen, considering anything could happen, we might as well look on the bright side and hope for the best. All thing considered, we have learned that mental health and a positive attitude can be difficult to keep day-in-day-out, but if we remember everything positive going on and be hopeful, magical things will happen.

(7) Prioritize who/what is important

Not being able to see family and friends this year has been really tough so it is important to go into 2021 with the most important people. Prioritize the people you love and contribute to your life in a positive way. This also goes for jobs, hobbies and everything else you invest your precious time in.
